Where to stay in Levi for a quiet holiday
A local host's view of Levi's areas, distances and seasons.
Updated 3 October 2026
Levi is a fell and ski resort in Kittilä, Finnish Lapland. The resort spreads around the fell and the village of Sirkka. How quiet your holiday is depends mostly on where you stay.
How Levi is laid out
Most hotels, restaurants and bars sit around the main crossroads in the village centre, close to the front slopes and the gondola. From there, holiday homes spread out towards the different slope areas and into quieter forest and fell areas.
Where to stay for peace and quiet
- Edges of Sirkka village. Quieter streets with homes, still within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the slopes.
- Utsuvaara and other outlying fell areas. A few kilometres from the centre, with forest around you and dark skies for the northern lights. You will want a car or the ski bus.
- Ski-in areas on the fell. Quiet in the evenings once the lifts close, with the slopes on your doorstep during the day.
What to check before you book
- Distance to the centre, the nearest slope and the ski tracks, and whether you can walk there safely in winter.
- Parking, and an EV charger if you drive an electric car.
- A private sauna. In Lapland it is part of everyday life, not an extra.
- What is included in the price: cleaning, linen and towels.
Getting there
Kittilä Airport is about 15 km from Levi. The airport bus meets every scheduled flight. If you come by night train, Kolari station is about 80 km away and a connecting bus meets the train. Taxis and private transfers are also available. See arrival in Levi for timetables.
Light through the year
In December the sun stays below the horizon for about two weeks, but each day still has a few hours of soft blue light. From late May to mid-July the sun does not set at all. Autumn colours usually peak in September.
